Bob Dylan - 1963 In Concert (The Unreleased CBS Album)
Bitrate - 192 kbps
Size - 66 mb
Information
These tracks are culled from two Bob Dylan concerts recorded in New York by CBS in 1963 with a view to a Dylan
live-album release at Xmas 1963.
The concerts, recorded either side of the release of The Freewheelin Bob Dylan (27 May), took place as
follows;
April 12; Town Hall, New York.
Bob-fact! This is the first concert in which Dylan performs his own songs only.
October 26; Carnegie Hall, New York.
Bob-fact! The audience includes Dylan's parents, including his father who did not normally attend his son's
concerts and with whom there was a very terse, strained relationship.
Most of these tracks were - very surprisingly - never released aside from "Who Killed Davey Moore?" which
surfaced on The Bootleg Series Volumes 1-3 (Rare & Unreleased) 1961-1991, "When The Ship Comes In" which
appeared on The Bootleg Series Vol. 7: No Direction Home: The Soundtrack and "Tomorrow Is A Long Time," which
made its way onto Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Vol. II
A timeless, perfectly recorded snapshot of an emerging genius.
The songs are great, well delivered and it's great to see a Dylan who is fresh faced and optimistic
........... this is obviously before certain crazy people and the crazy music business would soon almost drive
him to dementia, even almost death!
Where today would an artist want, or be able, to deliver a 7 minute heart-felt tribute poem to a hero (Last
Thoughts On Woody Guthrie)! Magnificent! CBS however apparently immensely disliked this piece and it became an
impediment to the ultimate release of the album - wankers!
Even though he's normally the silent type between songs, Dylan is a lot more open and more verbose here,
particularly on the Woody tribute and also prior to his apocalyptic piece, "When the Ship Comes In" when his
fascination with the bible (which went into severe overdrive in the late 70s and resulted in some strange and
questionable album releases) throws up the wonderful and very surreal Goliath the Second introduction;
"I want to sing you one song here, recognising that there are Goliaths nowadays and people dont realise just
who the Goliaths are. But in olden days Goliaths were slayed. And everybody nowadays looks back and sees how
cruel Goliath was. Nowadays there are crueler Goliaths doing crueler and crueler things, but one day they're
going to be slain, too And people 2,000 years from now can look back and say, 'Remember when Goliath the
Second was slayed'."
.... You gotta love that kind of stuff!!
In summary this is a fascinating and fantastic album! Here she be, hope you enjoy, ......
